I couldn’t get it to install. I tried the admin role I already was , compatibility troubleshooter, the whole works. C’mon Ubisoft Bucharest? Update: just talked to OP who found a thread on this in the CM forum over at Ubisoft where they say there is a solution. Follow this link and it will take you there. Disabling Windows Defender of CM folders helped.
Go here for a look. It will set up CM on a win 10 computer. If it still doesn’t work or if the installation of Dx9 failed in first place, go to the CD and into the “Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition” folder, then into the “Support” folder, and then “DirectX9” folder.
Now try those archives one by one by copying the dll file from inside each of them and paste it in the game installation folder and try running the game.
Start with the archives that end with 86 rather than 64 , for me the april worked. If you had to try the 64 ones, then before doing that remove the 86 ones you copied earlier or change their name before copying the 64 ones.
If it still doesn’t work go to the properties of Chessmaster’s executable and run the compatibility troubleshooter. I’ve literally gone through a minefield of issues trying to get my game installed. I finally figured out what my issues were. The error I was getting is Error Failed to Install. Something in the temp folder was creating the issue. Once it finished, I found compatibility mode to be a big issue also. CMX plays on Windows 10 without compatibility mode.

Most of the tutorials on the web recommends the Bluestacks app and I might be tempted to recommend it too, because you are more likely to easily find solutions online if you have trouble using the Bluestacks application on your computer.
Now that you have downloaded the emulator of your choice, go to the Downloads folder on your computer to locate the emulator or Bluestacks application. Once you have found it, click it to install the application or exe on your PC or Mac computer. Now click Next to accept the license agreement. Hi Greg, Let me explain in further details on my problem in installing Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition. I have read the forums, which don’t seem to mention this issue. Any suggestions on how to install the program, which I was able to install last year on same laptop, but took it off.
I have used other software to search for and pc issues and done are reported. Double click the ISO you downloaded to mount it, find the Setup file, right click to run the Compatibility troubleshooter, try installing it in the suggested mode. Did you contact UbiSoft Support?
