I do this allot, what you need to do is log in as the local user, connect on your vpn leave that account running do not log out, instead switch to the administrator, when you are in this account then try to join the domain. We are a small company who is going to replace our IT infrastructure, hosted on on-premise servers, with a similar solution hosted on VMs in Azure. The current solution is straightforward: We run Active Directory Domain services on a DC, we have a few servers windowe laptops joined to the domain.
We have also setup VPN so that our employees can connect to the comuter network from home ot access the resources on the servers files, ovee sites, etc. The feature I want do discuss here is this: In ordet to connect over VPN, the user authenticates using the domain username and password. From that point, the user can now access any resource on the internal network without having to authenticate again. This works even if the client computer is not joined commputer the domain.
Of course, the user must have permissions to the resource. We are now trying to set up join computer to domain over vpn windows 10 free similar solution in Azure.
